Bodybuilding is a sport in which you aim to pack on as much muscle as possible. Through the years we have seen a massive improvement in sports medicine and training techniques. Add the modern ability to find information in seconds and you have seen a massive difference in the nutrition and size of bodybuilders and athletes today from your IFBB pro’s to your local hobby lifter.
If you aiming to build muscle there’s plenty of isolation and cable exercises out there that will help you get the edge you are looking for but you can’t look past these 3 “meat and potato” lifts if you want to build muscle. Just doing these 3 lifts would put you in great stead to build a thick strong physique.

Bench Press
As you probably all know the bench press is the most used exercise in an everyday gym. The bench press targets the main upper body groups being the chest, forearms, triceps, delts and abdominals with minor work to other parts of the body. The bench press is great for building a strong upper body, a strong core, bone density in the upper body as well as gaining valuable push strength.

Squats
Everybodys least favorite exercise because you know you are going to be uncomfortable. Squats hurt for a reason! Squats target your hamstrings, gluts, quads, calves and abs but did you know the full body benefit of squat’s? After doing a squat’s session your body releases testosterone and growth hormone which creates an anabolic environment which will help grow your entire body.
Deadlifts
Deadlifts are the key to the kingdom of building a strong body. Deadlifts engage the most muscles out of any compound lift. They work your whole legs, lower back, traps and lower lats as well as creating a strong and stable core. Deadlifts also create great wrist and grip strength which can translate very well to certain sports. The deadlift creates strong pull strength and would recommend as the most important physical training tool to build a large frame.

Conclusion
These 3 lifts are your bread and butter and when added with just a few more basic movement and a wholesome diet you are going to see great results. Not only are you going to see great muscle gains but you will also see a power and speed increase if you play sport as well as some fat loss.
